Chinese premium ingredient supplier BGG announced its new global headquarters in Switzerland as base for a major restructuring plan to pursue international expansion.

The company, which is based in China, provides clinically supported ingredients for the dietary supplement, cosmetic, and food and beverage industries, specializing in fruit extracts, marine botanicals, natural vitamins, herbal extracts and natural sweeteners.

BGG noted that the expansion was responding to an increased need to foster deeper relationships with its international customers and partners, while maintaining production and R&D sites in China. The Swiss branch will add to the existing sites located in North America and Japan.

Operating as BGG World, the Basel-based headquarters will be managed by newly appointed CEO Jürgen Nelis.

"As we internationalize our organizational structure and operating model, we will be investing heavily in our commercial organization," Nelis commented.

"We are currently hiring several sales managers in Europe and the U.S., and by doing so, we will more than double our customer-facing resources in these key markets. At the same time, BGG will continue to invest in its asset base and in human clinical trials for its core products."

The state-of-the-art facility signifies BGG’s dedication to invest in further research and development within the functional foods category.

“This strategic overhaul underscores BGG World’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and global leadership in the natural ingredients sector, promising a future of sustained growth and international success,” said Thomas Adler, who joins BGG as global commercial director to lead the company’s international corporate strategy.

The estimated market value of the herbal supplement market is set to achieve a year-on-year growth of 7.6% during the 2024 to 2034 forecast period to reach revenue potential of $194,859.4 million.

Paired with a growing consumer demand for natural, clean-label alternatives to support with health areas such as immunity, stress and anxiety reduction, BGG is responding to the growing demand and market opportunity.

In addition to its planned growth strategy, BGG World is also set to diversify within the food ingredient sector, building upon existing solutions such as stevia and licorice extracts. The company said that it intends to broaden product offerings and innovation within dietary supplements, cosmetics and food ingredients in the coming years.

BGG’s existing products range across health categories including antioxidants, beauty, digestion, heart health and immunity.

The portfolio includes AstaZine astaxanthin, ApplePhenon apple polyphenols, CyaniMax cyanidin 3 glucoside, FucoMax fucoidan, MyrtiPRO bilberry extract, TheraPrimE tocotrienols and ThinOgen fucoxanthin.
